I came to faith when I was 12 years old, but without anyone to help me on my journey with the Lord I was in and out of the church throughout high school and college. Prior to joining staff at Stonegate I never had any desire to work in the local church. My dream since graduating college had been to pursue a career as a college basketball coach and that is what I did. For 23 years I coached at every level of college basketball and one season of minor league professional ball. As I grew in my faith my coaching vocation became my context for pastoring people.
I came to Dallas in 2006 to help re-start a basketball program at Dallas Baptist University. While there I earned an MBA and met my wife Jen. Jen and I were married in 2009 and I have three children, Emma, Quinn and Greyson. We began attending Stonegate in December of that same year and I am so thankful that God brought us here. He has surrounded me with Godly men who have helped me know how to follow Jesus and deepen my relationship with him.
In 2016 I was named the head basketball coach at East Texas Baptist University and we moved to Marshall, TX. During our time in East Texas my relationship with Jesus deepened even more as I began to learn to listen to the Holy Spirit. During my last season coaching college basketball the Lord asked me to lay down my coaching career to come serve the local church at Stonegate. Much like the rich young ruler, my career had meant everything to me so walking away was very difficult.
I joined staff at Stonegate as the Groups Pastor in April 2020 and the time here has been incredibly rewarding. I am so thankful for the privilege of pastoring people and helping people become fully formed disciples of Jesus. My hope for everyone at Stonegate is that we would all know the depths of joy that come from knowing Jesus and we would grow to become like him in every way.
